EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT ACCEPTABLE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION


In 2012, the IRS started requiring more documentation from tax preparers of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Below is a list of acceptable supporting documentation needed to prepare your return if you are receiving the EITC.



To Show Residency of Qualifying Children:

  • School records or statement
  • Landlord or property management statement
  • Health care provider statement
  • Medical records
  • Child care provider statement
  • Social service records or statement
  • Place of worship statement
  • Employer statement
  • Any other documentation to show residency

To Show Disability of Qualifying Children:

  • Doctor Statement
  • Other health care provider statement
  • Social services agency or program statement
  • Any other documentation to show disability

 To Show Self-Employment:

  • Business license
  • Forms 1099
  • Records of gross receipts
  • Summary of income
  • Records of expenses
  • Summary of expenses
  • Bank statements


These requirements are a result of the IRS continuing to receive fraudulent claims of the EITC.
